MET the Problem Solvers – Cost Reduction

Many applications for DC motors involve the direct coupling of the motor to another component, such as a pump or gearbox. Through the years there have been many attempts to utilize standard mounting arrangements, such as a 56 C-Face or a J shaft and end bell. All competent motor manufacturers should have these standard options available for their customers’ benefit.

However, because of the wide variety of manufacturers of these types of components, the coupling to the motor often has to be accomplished by using a separate mating device. This increases the possibility of misalignment of the moving parts, i.e. shafts, gears, and bearings. Separate mounting devices can also increase the weight, length and cost of the final product.

MET Motors works with each of our customers in designing a motor specific for the application. On many occasions, we have designed a mating part directly into the motor endcap that replaces a separate mating device. This direct coupling of the motor has had a major impact on the finished assembly, by increasing the product quality and decreasing its size, weight and cost.
